At S.G. Finch Contracting, our roots in the construction industry run deep.
It all began in 1984, when I started working summers at The Adams-Bilt Company at the age of sixteen. My early responsibilities included everything from clearing lots and laying out foundation footings, to pouring concrete, waterproofing, grading, and operating machinery. I was the “shovel man,” learning every aspect of the job firsthand—from reading blueprints to running dozers, backhoes, and compactors. That hands-on experience gave me the solid foundation and strong work ethic that continues to drive our company today.
In 1989, my father and I purchased equipment from The Adams-Bilt Company and launched Tri-Land Services, Inc. We focused on clearing and grading lots, building private roads, digging basements, and preparing sites for new homes and additions. We proudly worked alongside landscapers, homeowners, and building contractors across the region.
As the industry evolved, so did our focus. By 1995, we specialized in clearing, grading, private road construction, basement excavation, and hauling materials like topsoil, gravel, and sand.
By 1997, we were partnering with over 20 custom builders and two major track builders—Sunstar Homes and Westminister Homes—on projects throughout the Triangle, including high-profile communities like Southern Village, Meadowmont, Governor’s Club, and Wakefield.
After decades of steady work in the region, we established S.G. Finch Contracting in 2008 to adapt to changing markets and expand our services. We now proudly serve a broader range of clients, including individual homeowners, the equine community, and long-time contractors across Fuquay-Varina and the greater Triangle area.
